1.2. The BMW E38 cars - the summary
The 3rd generation (E38 body) of the BMW sedans of the 7th series was for the first time presented in May, 1994 by models 730i, 740i with V8 engines of 3.0 and 4.0 l. In September, 1994 the model 750i with the 5.4-liter V12 engine, and also the extended options of models 740i and 750i was produced. In September, 1995 the release of model 728i with the 2.8 l 6-cylinder engine began. In March, 1996 the model 735i with the 3.5-liter V8 engine came to replacement of model 730i, and also models 740i (with the new engine of 4.4 l, but without change of power) and 725tds were presented (with the turbodiesel engine of 2.5 l). Except listed above, diesel models 730d and 740d were produced. During production (from 1994 to 2002) BMW E38 complete set repeatedly changed that caused variety of modifications of these cars.
The engine is installed in a motive compartment is longitudinal. For torque transmission from the engine to the driving back wheels either 6-staged RKPP, or 5-staged AT with the Steptronic system or without it was used 5-.
Completely independent suspension bracket of forward wheels consists of a beam, Mac-Ferson's racks, cross levers and the stabilizer of cross stability. The back suspension bracket represents a multilever design with a stretcher and a double elastic suspension bracket of the main transfer. Levers and driving wheels are geometrically located in such a way that they together with rubber support create effect of joint management of back wheels and provide precisely calculated fine tuning of an angle of rotation of back wheels.
Brakes are equipped by the vacuum amplifier. Brake mechanisms – disk, the ABS system is regularly installed.
BMW E38 in a basic complete set is equipped with forward safety cushions of the driver and forward passenger, and since July, 1997 – also side safety cushions.
